I'm Nick Colquitt, the heart and soul behind this venture, and I'd like to share my story with you.

As a lifelong artist and creator, my journey hasn't been a conventional one. Despite the challenges of going against the grain, sometimes living the starving artist life, my art has found its way into the hands of those who appreciate it and I’ve found ways to keep creating. The practice of creating is invaluable for me, and I hope others find value in the objects I create.  Music gear is available here on this website. Right now it's only custom amplifiers but I hope to expand offerings once we’ve gained some traction. I’m also a visual artist and my original oil paintings are currently on display at Asheville Gallery of Art, an artist owned co-op and the oldest gallery in Asheville.

Audio Electronics from Basement to Global Impact:

In my late teens, I ran a small effects pedal company (NOC3 Effects) from my parents' basement, shipping units globally. An autodidact and tinker from an early age, I learned about music technology through self directed study and kitchen table reverse engineering. My Mom had worked for Ampeg in the 70’s and I learned how to solder when I was 8. However, I had no business education or interest in it at the time when NOC3 took off. When overwhelm and burnout led me away, I ventured into various entry level jobs ranging from construction to factory work. Eventually my niche skill set lead me back to music, working on Moog Music's flagship Legacy Modular Systems. Despite a deep love of the work, a clash with corporate values led to my departure.

During tough times, I reluctantly parted with my personal amp. To my surprise, its new owner not only cherished it but shared its magic with the world through a YouTube demo. Soon, requests started pouring in, leading to the birth of Blue Ridge Audio. I took business classes to fill the gaps in my knowledge and feel that, along with the life experience I’ve gained, I’m ready to get back on the horse. What started as a lifeline became a passion project and a way to share my love for creating.

Vision and Core Values:

Mastery of Craft - Continual Conscious Improvement - Connection & Community

Masterful execution comes about through practice and humility. No matter how many times I’ve done something, I maintain a “beginners mind” and always seek ways to get better and learn something new. Rather than perfectionist striving for an ideal, this manifests as openness to change and seeing opportunities in challenges.

Rather than focusing on rapid growth and shipping lots of units, I’m keeping the business intentionally small to provide exceptional personal service and ensure tight quality control. We build to order and offer unparalleled customization options. Assembly line mass production is boring, get something made just for you.

Every Amp, a Work of Art:

At Blue Ridge Audio, we don't just build amplifiers; we create sonic masterpieces. Each amp is a labor of love that blurs the line between gear and fine art. Quality matters, and our commitment is to deliver not just amplifiers but experiences that resonate with your passion for music.

Thank you for being a part of this journey.

Sincerely,

Nick Colquitt
